Fifth-seed Francisco Cerundolo was one of three local players to advance to the round of 16 in a rain-affected day at the Argentina Open on Tuesday.

World No. 31 Cerundolo overcame Italian Luciano Darderi 6-4, 6-4 in a match marked by several interruptions at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.

"It's always difficult when it rains," Cerundolo said. "You have to sit around all day. We arrived at around 11am and we finished around 11pm. You have to be focused, stay relaxed and be ready whenever you go on court and I think I did that today."

Cerundolo's next opponent will be younger brother Juan Manuel, who progressed by overcoming compatriot Roman Burruchaga 7-6(4), 5-7, 5-5.

In another all-Argentine clash, sixth-seed Sebastian Baez defeated Camilo Carabelli 6-4, 6-4.

But the duel between local favorite Diego Schwartzman and Chilean seventh-seed Nicolas Jarry was postponed due to the inclement weather.
