Kenyan female distance runner Florence Jepkosgei Chepsoi has been sentenced to a one-year community service order after pleading guilty to presenting false documents to the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK).

The sentence was confirmed in a statement signed by the ADAK Chief Executive Officer, Japhter Rugut, on Friday evening.

Chepsoi first appeared in court in the northwestern Kenyan town of Eldoret on July 29 last year after being charged under country's Anti-Doping Act, initially pleading not guilty.

According to the ADAK, Chepsoi, 37, was banned for two years in 2017 for using performance-boosting drug Prednisolone during a race in China.

"Appearing before a Sports Disputes Tribunal, Chepsoi presented documentation she claimed was from the Uasin Gishu District Hospital as part of her defence," said the ADAK.

"ADAK's Investigations and Intelligence Gathering Unit looked into the matter and determined, having consulted with the hospital, that the documents were forgeries and Chepsoi had never received treatment there," it added.

Chepsoi was thus arrested and arraigned before court and charged pursuant to Section 42 (1) Paragraph (e) of the Anti-Doping Act.

Following the successful prosecution, the ADAK stressed that more doping violators would face the law in the coming days.

"The Agency will continue prosecuting athletes and their support personnel found culpable of Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) in line with the laid down legal framework.

"ADAK remains to be a world-class anti-doping agency, protecting clean athletes and promoting fair play. We wish to reiterate we will not relent in the fight against doping," added the ADAK.
