The Brazilian state of Sao Paulo has reached an agreement to host the Formula One Brazilian Grand Prix from 2021 through 2025 at its Interlagos circuit, state Gov. Joao Doria said Thursday.

"I am proud to announce that the contract for the Brazilian Grand Prix has been renewed until 2025," Doria said during a press conference.

The contract will be signed by the company Liberty Media, which has the commercial rights to the event, and the mayor of Sao Paulo city, Doria said.

Formula One motorsports had released a tentative schedule for the 2021 season with 23 races this week, including the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos on November 14.

The Brazilian Grand Prix was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first time since 1973 that it did not take place.
