Top China Taekwondo official arrested for graft

China's top taekwondo official has been detained on suspicion of corruption, the Xinhua news agency said Tuesday, with just months to go before the?London Olympic Games.
Zhao Lei, vice director of the China Boxing and Taekwondo Administration Center (CBTAC), "was taken away... for investigation" one week ago, said Chang Jianping, director of CBTAC, according to Xinhua.
However,?there is no further details of the accusations by far and China's sports ministry?said it didn't know the reason behind Zhao's arrest.
"I have heard about this, but I am unaware of the specifics of his case," a spokesman for the General Administration of Sports said.
The Beijing Times said the move was linked to economic irregularities, which in China usually refers to the possession of money and valuables that cannot be accounted for.
The 51-year-old Zhao has been one of the most prominent person in the development of taekwondo since the 1980s. He had been the head of the taekwondo section of the CBTAC and also vice president and general secretary of the CTA.
Under his charge, China has won at least one gold medal?at each Olympic Games since it became an official event?at the 2000 Olympic Games.
