Li clinches third gold medal for China

China claimed the third gold medal at the world swimming championships on Monday when Li Shixin won the men's 1m springboard competition.
Li, who had qualified for the final first, amassed 463.90 points from six solid dives for his first world title. His Chinese compariot He Min took the silver with 444.00 points. Germany's Pavlo Rozenberg pocketed the bronze medal at 436.50.
The 23-year-old Li withstood pressure as Rozenberg chased him closely throughout the final. Li could only manage to establish a clear advantage over the German in the penultimate round when his inward two and half somersault earned him 81.60 points.
He made several mistakes to only place seventh after the second dive. But the Asian Games gold medalist found his rhythm gradually and finally overtook Rozenberg after the last dive.
An accident happened in the final round when Mexico's Daniel Islas struck the board with his feet as he finished off a dive and fell heavily into the water flat on his back. He was awarded a no dive and finished 11th of the 12 divers.
"It was a very difficult dive. It only happened at this competition," he said.
