European football governing body UEFA have charged Real Madrid and Barcelona over incidents in Wednesday's Champions League semifinal first-leg.

Barcelona won a feisty affair 2-0 among controversies and the authorities have taken a dim view of events.

Real midfielder Pepe was dismissed during the game, while Real boss Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for his protests, but it is for his post-match comments that the former Chelsea chief may be in hot water.

The Portuguese tactician said: "It's clear that against Barcelona you have no chance. I don't know if it's the publicity of Unicef (the club's shirt sponsor), I don't know if it's because they are very nice, but they've got this power.

"I don't know if it's the friendship of (Spanish football federation president Angel Maria) Villar at UEFA, where he is vice- president."

There was also a brawl involving players and back-room staff at half-time and Barca reserve keeper Jose Pinto was given a red card for his part in the incident.

Both cases will be heard by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body on May 6, three days after the second leg at the Nou Camp.

Real are also being charged over the "throwing of missiles and a pitch invasion" by their fans.
