Wildfire scorches 50,000 acres of land in Texas

A fast-moving wildfire in west Texas has burnt about 50,000 acres of land as more firefighters and equipment have been dispatched to the area, local media reported Friday.
The fire in Stonewall county jumped the Brazo River on Thursday and traveled 12 miles in four hours. The fire was not contained Friday, according to media report.
State authorities warned that more fires are expected throughout the weekend as extremely dry conditions, high temperatures and high winds are coming to create storm for wildfire.
Fires are increasingly common across Texas due to the weather this year. As of Tuesday, the Texas Forest Service, the leading agency for fighting wildfires, had reportedly responded to 618 fires that had burned some 279,000 acres.
A study released this week shows that last month was the driest March in Texas history since 1895.
