US swimming star Michael Phelps will take part in next week's Indianapolis Grand Prix meet.

Phelps, who collected eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games, raced in another event on the US tour in Austin, Texas, last month and was far from his best.

US Olympic champions Ryan Lochte and Jason Lezak will also take part in the Indianapolis meet.

Japanese Olympic gold medallist Kosuke Kitajima, Austrian Olympic runner-up Markus Rogan, South African Olympian Darian Townsend and Swiss Olympian Dominick Meichtry will also compete in the meet.

The meet serves as part of a tune-up series ahead of the World Championships in Shanghai in July.
