Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat hopes to make a big career leap by winning his first Asian Tour victory in the new 2011 season.

Kiradech, often compared to John Daly for his grip-it and rip-it style of play, is highly regarded as the next star to emerge from Thailand and he has come close to winning on numerous occasions since making his debut on the Asian Tour in 2009.

He has been in contention on four occasions in two years but eventually finished second, third, fourth and fifth in the 2009 Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters, the 2010 Maybank Malaysian Open, the 2010 Asian Tour International in Thailand and the 2010 Iskandar Johor Open respectively.

Similar to pieces of a puzzle, Kiradech believes his career is slowly taking shape and he will eventually hoist the elusive victory trophy.

"The win was there for me to take on a few occasions but I always seem to lose on the last day. I don't know why," said the 22-year-old.

"I guess you have to take things one step at a time and I've been quite consistent last year. I really want to win my first Asian Tour title and I am looking forward to the new season ahead," said the former World Junior champion.

With commendable performances in Malaysia, it is no surprise as to why he chose his performances in his neighbouring country as the main highlights of 2010.

"My performances in Malaysia last season was definitely the high note for me as I was in contention on two occasions. I always play well there and many of my friends who are Thai players always tell me to keep up with my game and not give up.

"Every year, they encourage me to play my best and tell me that my time will come to win a title. I hope it will come true this year," said Kiradech, who finished in 10th place on the 2010 Order of Merit.

Like most aspiring Thai golfers, Kiradech harbours hopes of carving an illustrious career similar to three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit champion Thongchai Jaidee, Thaworn Wiratchant, a 12-time winner in Asia and veteran Boonchu Ruangkit, who won the European Senior Tour Order of Merit with four victories last year.

"Those guys are legends and they have made the game in Thailand more popular now with their victories and success abroad. Golf in Thailand has improved tremendously and hopefully I will join the winning ranks soon," said Kiradech.
