Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said they deserved the World Cup trophy after beating the Netherlands 1-0 on Andres Iniesta's extra time goal in the 106th minute on Sunday.

"I first congratulate Holland because they put on a very tough match for us to play," said Bosque.

"(Arjen) Robben did very good job but it was us who dominated the match. we deserved this reward and this triumph. We are supported by all the people in Spain and we are delighted to offer this victory to Spain.

"I don't want to highlight any particular player like Iniesta because it's the success for all of us. All the members deserve what we received today."

When asked about Dutch rough style, Bosque said: "I just want to talk about good and beautiful things. The match was intense, very balanced and tight. In this final we played quality, offensive and attacking football, which is the first thing that comes to my mind."

As for the first World Cup held in Africa, Bosque said it was an extraordinary success for the continent.

As for Spain's beautiful football, Bosque said it was not an ending and they would continue to demonstrate on the pitch.

Iniesta, the best player of the match, said: "I can't quite believe it. I scored such an important goal for my team. I want to enjoy the moment."

However, Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk criticized English referee Howard Webb's calls after they lost the final.

"It was very sad in the final three or four minutes," he said. "Even with 10 men we would be able to play the shootout."

Webb fished out five yellow cards in the first half and issued nine more in the second as he was struggling to control the hot-tempered game.

Dutch defender John Heitinga received his second yellow card in the 109th minute to be shown out of the pitch.

Dutch players protested to the referee about Iniesta's goal because they thought it should be annulled for offside. But TV replays showed he was quite in the safe zone when receiving the pass.

Van Marwijk also complained about the referee, saying that "not we say it but the referee says it."

When commenting on Dutch players' style, van Marwijk said: "The fouls came from both sides, not just from our side. It's not our style, the Spanish also committed terrible fouls."

Statistics showed that the Netherlands committed 28 fouls against 19 from the Spaniards.

The coach admitted that the Dutch would play rough in order to win.

"I'd like to win even it's not beautiful football," he said, but lamented the lost chances.

"We could have scored through Robben and we could have won. You know the team who score the first goal might win the match," he said.

Van Marwijk also noted the progress made by the Spaniards.

"Spain are the best football country in the last two years," he said. "But technically speaking we did a good job today."
