South Korea beat defending champion Chinese Taipei 9-3 in Guangzhou on Friday to capture baseball gold at the ongoing Guangzhou Asian Games.

South Korea, who defeated China to breeze into the final, took a 6-1 lead after the first three innings. Though the Chinese Taipei fought back in the fourth inning by winning 2 points, the South Koreans extended their advance in the ninth inning by adding two more points and concluded 9-3 for the three-and-a-half hour match.

The bronze medal went to Japan, who defeated China 6-2 earlier on Friday.
