Chinese Pu Qifeng beat Olympic champion Jin Jong-oh of South Korea with 661.5 points to win the men's 50m pistol gold medal at the Asian Games on Saturday.

Jin picked the silver with 659.5 points and Japanese Tomoyuki Matsuda got the bronze with 653.7.

China was one of Jin's luckiest places. He got his first and only Olympic gold medal in Beijing 2008, added with two World Cup final titles in Wuxi 2009.

The story seemed to run in the right way when Jin topped qualification phase with 566 points. Trailing by one point at the beginning of the final, Pu seized chance at the second shot, in which Jin made a surprising 8.2. Jin made his way back by making five 9.7-up show in the next six shots, but his 7.7 points dragged him back to the second place.

Rallying back to snatch gold, Pu was in high spirit after the match.

"I must keep trying in order not to make our team feel shameful," said Pu about losing the team event.

The seeming confident Pu was not so sure about his victory before the final. "I haven't expected the gold. To tell the truth, I even forgot how to pull the trigger at the first shot," said Pu.

Though several months older than his Olympic champion teammate Pang Wei, Pu was much less known. As a result, the news conference began with Pu's self-introduction.

"I had a half-year training in the national team in 2007, but I went back to my local team after failing one qualification match," said Pu. "I came back to the national team last November, so I seldom took part in international competitions."

Pu also had kin relationship with Pang. "We are brothers," he said.

South Korean pistol shooters had a much better performance on the international stage than the Chinese team since Beijing Olympic. Chinese star Pang Wei and Tan Zongliang had both lost to Jin for several times. Pu's breakthrough equipped China with a new weapon against South Korean pistol shooters.
