The Chinese mainland welcomes the attendance of the Chinese Taipei delegation at the upcoming Guangzhou Asian Games, the mainland's Taiwan affairs spokesman said Wednesday.

Taiwan compatriots are welcome at the Guangzhou Asian Games, spokesman Yang Yi said at a press briefing, adding that he hopes the Chinese Taipei athletes will perform well.

He said Chinese Taipei will send a 560-member delegation to the 16th Asian Games, which will take place in Guangzhou from November 12 to 27. The 397 athletes of the delegation will participate in 32 games.

Guangzhou is the second Chinese city to host the Asian Games. Beijing hosted the quadrennial sporting event in 1990.
