Wozniacki reaches semis at US Open

Top seed Caroline Wozniacki overcame unseeded Dominika Cibulkova in a dominant way on Wednesday, advancing to the semifinals at the US Open under windy conditions.
The Dane, last year's runner-up, upended Cibukova of Slovakia 6-2, 7-5 at the blustery night, setting up the semifinal matchup with Vera Zvonareva after the Russian earlier beat Estonia's Kaia Kanepi 6-3 7-5.
"It felt like playing in a hurricane," Wozniacki said afterwards.
Wozniacki extended her winning streak to 13 matches with the victory.
Zvonareva, seeded seventh also coped with the windy conditions in the day's first quarterfinal to reach the last four of the US Open for the first time.
Wozniacki breezed through the first four rounds losing just 10 games, breaking the Slovak in the 11th game of the second set and held serve to close out the match in 105 minutes.
Wozniacki made only 18 unforced errors. Cibulkova made 43.
Kanepi, the 31st seed, served six double-faults in the first set and was broken three times, and the errors kept coming in the second set, allowing seventh seed Zvonareva to break her four more times.
The match featured 88 unforced errors, 60 of them from Kanepi, and 11 breaks of serve as the Estonian in particular struggled to deal with the wind which swirls around at Flushing Meadows.
