Carlos Nuzman, President of the organising committee for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, seemed prepared to embrace sport innovations introduced at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

"I have a progressive stance," Nuzman told Youth Olympic news service on Wednesday.

"I am for attracting youngsters to the Olympic Games. And nothing is better to do that than modernizing the Games itself, creating alternative events."

Nuzman also showed his interest to some new sports format at Youth Olympics.

"The three-on-three basketball introduced in Singapore is fantastic, and I'm in favour of its adoption at the Olympic Games," he said, explaining the three-aside competition would run in conjunction with five-aside basketball in the same way that beach volleyball was an Olympic sport alongside the traditional volleyball competition.

He also welcomed events such as the mixed team in the 4x100m freestyle and medley relays in swimming.

"We need to be bold to change," he added.

Given that he had been tasked with staging the 2016 Olympic Games, Nuzman said the Youth Olympics should be hosted by those that believe it was not their time yet to organise the Olympic Games.

The first Youth Olympics, held in Singapore on Aug. 14 to 26, is a sporting event balancing sport, culture and education.
