Kevin Garnett unmoved by 'Big Three' hype

It's tempting to envision the glory the Miami Heat's new and ambitious "Big Three" can achieve given the accomplishments of the Boston Celtics' latest "Big Three".

However, Kevin Garnett, a member of Boston's super trio, believes it's too early to talk about any success before the Heat's new signings actually play together.

"Not until they go through some type of difficulties and turmoil will we start to see the true colors," said the All-star power forward, who arrived in Beijing on Sunday to promote basketball with his new sponsor, Anta.

The trio of Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce helped the Celtics reach the 2008 and 2010 NBA finals and win a championship in 2008. Boston missed the 2009 finals while Garnett was sidelined with a knee injury.

Expectations inevitably rose, then, when LeBron James, the two-time reigning league MVP, announced last month he would play for Miami, joining six-time All-star Dwyane Wade and five-time All-star Chris Bosh in the Heat's line-up.

"I am happy for LeBron making up the decision, you know, what he wants to do for himself. (It) Should be interesting (to watch the new 'Big Three')," Garnett said.

"I can really make no judgment because they haven't played a game. But on paper, they look fine, like we did."

Garnett, 34, who has 15 years of NBA experience, said the new "Big Three" would make an impact with youthfulness it possesses. The Heat's trio is in its 20s, compared to the 30s for the Celtics' "Big Three".

"I am sure just because people saw that youthfulness, they should live like that, promote that and know that our 'Big Three' is probably a lot older and on our way out," he said.

"I am sure they're gonna make that transition."

Despite possessing an NBA championship and an Olympic gold medal, Garnett said he is still hungry to win another league title with Celtics.

"My next goal is trying to get another ring. I hate losing," he said.

"I am getting older, but my mind is still fresh. I am more than motivated."

Garnett will return to the court with a healthy body and also a new sponsor in Anta, a fast-growing Chinese sportswear company.

He is so far the highest-profile NBA signing for the company, which previously added Steve Francis and Luis Scola to its stable.

"This year I am fully recovered. I am excited just because I am healthier from last year," Garnett said. "I am gearing myself up for this year."

Garnett starts an eight-day tour of China today, during which he will travel to Xiamen and Shanghai.
