3 NBA fans sent to jail for attacking police

Three NBA fans have been sentenced to jail on charges of attacking police and resisting arrest for their roles in a rowdy celebration following the Los Angeles Lakers' championship in mid-June, local authorities said on Thursday.
Jonathan Vasquez, 20, was sentenced to 18 months probation and 90 days in jail. He threw a rock at a bicycle officer patrolling the area around Staples Center when the Lakers walked away with their victory on June 17.
Nearly 40 people were arrested after hundreds of rowdy fans started bonfires in the streets, hurled rocks and bottles at police officers and attacked motorists outside Staples Center on the same night. In 2000, after the Lakers won their first NBA title in 12 years, fans rioted outside Staples Center, destroying two police cars and leaving more than 70 other vehicles damaged.
"The actions of these defendants dishonored what was a joyous celebration, putting the public and law enforcement at risk," Deputy City Attorney Brad Rothenberg said.
The other two males who were also sentenced to jail on the same charges were Gerry Adams, 25, and Cameron Perry, 33. They were among seven people that were arrested by police at a parade held four days later.
In addition to being sentenced to 36 months probation and 90 days in jail, Adams also has to spend 30 days behind the bars for probation violation. Perry was sentenced to 36 months of probation and 90 days in jail.
All three Angelenos were ordered to stay away from both Staples Center and the location of their arrests for the duration of their probation, the City Attorney's office said.
Among the arrested fans, most were held for public intoxication.
