Olympic speedskating champion appeals to CAS against doping ban

Five-time Olympic speedskating champion Claudia Pechstein, who got a two-year doping ban, said on her web page on Monday that she had appealed again to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The 37-year-old German said that she had appealed to the CAS ad-hoc division in Vancouver, and had also filed charges against the International Ice Skating Union (ISU) in a Swiss court for suppressing evidence in her case.
CAS said late Monday that it had received an application from Pechstein and that it would not comment further.
Pechstein has always denied doping and never failed a drug test. The ISU found that Pechstein gave blood samples with abnormal levels at the World Allround Championships last season, and banned her from competition until February 2011.
Last month, Pechstein lost her last chance to have her doping ban lifted in time to compete in Vancouver Olympics.
Pechstein won her first Olympic gold medal in the 5,000-meter race in Lillehammer in 1994, and took the same distance in Nagano in 1998 and Salt Lake City in 2002. She also won the 3,000 in Salt Lake City, and was part of Germany's winning team in the pursuit in Turin in 2006.
