Thailand keeps tight grip on top of 25th SEA Games

With three days of competition remaining at the 25th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Thailand still tops the gold medal tally with 56 golds by 5:00 p.m local time (1000GMT) on Wednesday.

Thailand scooped five more golds in boxing women's 54kg bantam weight, boxing women's 57kg feather weight, men's 110m hurdles, petanque mixed triples one man and two women and men's recurve team archery.

Vietnam maintained second with 53 golds despite raking in seven more golds in Wednesday's final events of wushu, judo, shooting, athletics, archery and shuttle cock.

Taking one more gold in men's discus throw athletics, Singapore is still third with 32 golds so far.

The following are Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Brunei.

The only country yet to win gold or silver is Timor Leste. Timor Leste has won three bronzes so far.

The host Laos remained seventh with 23 golds.

More golds will be decided in final events of fin swimming, billiard and snooker, football and volleyball which take place late Wednesday evening.

The 25th SEA Games, running till Dec. 18, drew participation of about 5,000 athletes and officials from 11 Southeast Asian countries. A total of 25 sports were featured with 377 gold medals at stake.
