Malaysian badminton coach suspected to be infected with A/H1N1 flu in India

The Malaysian coach for the World Badminton Championship being held in the southern Indian city Hyderabad, Misbun Sidek, has displayed symptoms of A/H1N1 fluand his samples have been sent for testing, reported the Indo-Asian News Service on Tuesday.

"Sidek complained of throat pain last evening. His samples have been sent for testing. We don't want to take any chance. We are taking all precautions," the news service quoted Pullela Gopichand, director of the organizing committee and Indian team coach, as saying.

The news broke out after India has been grasped in A/H1N1 flu panic in the past several days when the number of fatalities from the flu suddenly rose to eight.

More than 250 players from 42 countries are competing in the six-day event that began Monday.

The championship is the first of the series of world-class sporting event that India would be hosting ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
