He Zhaohui, the 19-year-old Chinese marksman, shot down his second World Cup title in the men's 50-meter three positions event with a stunning performance at the shooting World Cup in Milan Monday.
He, travelling aboard for the first time, won his first World Cup gold medal five days earlier in Munich, setting a new junior world record and a national record of 1182 points out of 120 shots in the qualification round. His total score of 1283.5 points was also a new Chinese national record.
"I was a little bit lucky to win in Munich. That competition just turned out to be easy," said He. "However, this time I would say that I really win by my own ability and self-control."
He collected 1181 points in the qualification round, almost pocketing the gold with an unshakable advantage of eight points to the other finalists. He again turned out to be the only star of the 10-shot final round, where he fired an outstanding score of 103.8 points and marched to the top of the podium for the second time in five days.
The total of 1284.8 points renewed his own national record set in Munich.
"I didn't feel good during the eliminations yesterday, so I didn't think of much today and just told myself to do what I should do," he said."I would say my final was almost perfect."
Niccolo Campriani of Italy secured the silver medal for the host country with a total of 1269.6 points, trailing He by 15.2 points. Anders Johanson from Sweden finished on the third position with a total of 1268.5 points.
