Spanish gov't reveals huge tax debt of Spanish football clubs
Adjust font size:

The Spanish Government Wednesday revealed the massive tax debt of Spain's Primera Liga and Second Division football clubs.

The Spanish government gave the information in response to a question, which was asked by the opposition (Popular Party) spokesman for sport, Francisco Gonzalez Perez last year.

In November 2008, Gonzalez Perez has asked for detailed information about how much money the club's owed the State.

In reply Wednesday, the Spanish government responded that up to Oct. 31, 2008, the 42 clubs had tax debts of 627.27 million euros.

They also owed almost five million euros in unpaid social security. The government reply did not stipulate how much money was owed by individual clubs.
