Editor's note: As a mined-out city, Huaibei is gradually losing industrial competitiveness in east China's Anhui province. In recent years, it has aimed to transform its main industrial structure from coal mining to eco-friendly and high-tech industries. It is now called "Carbon Valley."

Photos show the scenery of Lvjin Lake (also known as Green Golden Lake) at Lvjin Central Park in Huaibei, Anhui province, on Sept. 3, 2019. Lvjin Lake, which was a former coal mine subsidence area, is an artificial lake. Covering 36,100 mu (about 2,407 hectares), the park is designed to act as Huaibei's "green lung," just like Central Park in New York.
