Women's Wheelchair Basketball Day 4 Preview: Germany, Australia meet to recover from recent losses

Germany and Australia meet after both losing their last matches against the undefeated Team USA, who will play against Great Britain, in the fourth day of the Women's Wheelchair Basketball preliminary games that will take place on Wednesday, September?10 at the National Indoor Stadium and the USTB Gymnasium.

The Netherlands vs. Japan (Pool B) - USTB Gymnasium

The Netherlands enjoyed a day off after beating Mexico in its opener and losing to Canada on Monday. The team is second in overall rebounding, with an average of 44.5 rebounds per game. Inge Huitzing scored 11 points per game.

Japan is 3-0 thus far in the tournament, having registered wins over China on Sunday, Mexico on Monday and Canada on Tuesday.

Following Japan's victory over Canada, guard and team captain Mika Takabayashi said her team wants to win against the Netherlands as a step towards qualifying at the top of group B.

United States vs. Great Britain (Pool A) - USTB Gymnasium

The United States retain a perfect record after beating Germany and Australia, two medal contenders, and scoring an average of 40 points per game.

Jen Ruddell is the team's top scorer, averaging 12 points per game in a well-balanced offence.

Great Britain secured its quarterfinal spot by beating winless Brazil 61-29 in its second match. On the first one on Sunday, the British team lost heavily to Australia, 59-30.

Sally Wager sits sixth in tournament rebounding, with an average of 9.5 rebounds per game. Clare Strange averages 9.5 points and 4.5 assists per game.

Canada vs. China (Pool B) - National Indoor Stadium

China routed Mexico in the team's second game of the tournament on Tuesday, bringing Chain's record to 1-1 after losing 49-46 to Japan on Sunday.

Center Fu Yongqing, China's high scorer against Mexico on Tuesday, said Canada's advantages over China include technique and strength.

Canada, the reigning world champion, lost 55-52 to Japan on Tuesday. The reigning world champion defeated the Netherlands 59-32 on Sunday. Center Misty Thomas was her team's top scorer (15 points) and rebounder (11) against Japan.

After Canada's loss to Japan on Tuesday, guard Sabrina Pettinicchi said the key to success against China is "ensuring we're ready (and)...fine-tuning ourselves."

Germany vs. Australia (Pool A) - National Indoor Stadium

Germany rested on Tuesday after starting the tournament with one win over Brazil and a narrow loss to Team USA.

Marina Mohnen is the third best scorer and rebounder of the tournament, averaging 17 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.

Australia has a 2-1 record after easily beating Great Britain and Brazil and losing to the United States on its third match on Tuesday.

Liesl Tesch has an average of 12.3 points (seventh in the tournament), 8.7 rebounds (eighth in the tournament) and 4 steals per game (second in the tournament).
