Mexican President congratulates Paralympics gold winner

Mexican President Felipe Calderon congratulated on Sunday the swimmer Nelly Miranda, who won a gold medal during Beijing Paralympics, in China.

Miranda, 36, on Sunday obtained the first medal of the Mexican delegation at the Paralympics.

Miranda won the medal at 100m free on the category S4 with a time of 1:45.89 minutes.

During a phone conversation, Calderon told Miranda that the country followed with joy the competition and that this first triumph is a proud for Mexico.

The determination of Miranda "is an example of willing and talent" for all the Mexicans, Calderon said in a communique sent by the office of the Republic Presidency.

U.S. swimmers Cherli Angelelli and Aimee Bruder won the silver and bronze respectively.
