China Thursday reiterated its basic political system in the face of an unfavorable environment created by international media.

Top legislator Wu Bangguo said that China is determined not to employ a system where multiple parties hold office in rotation or other Western-style political reforms. The nation will stick to the multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

China has engaged in its basic political system for more than 60 years. During the first three decades, the nation made some detours under the influence of the Soviet Union and due to lacking confidence when dealing with external adverse circumstances. However, the nation quickly developed following the right lines, shaking off the accumulated weakness of past centuries.

Wu's remarks resume well the lessons and experiences of the Chinese people.

The notion that China would not follow or imitate Western-style democracy as voiced by a senior Chinese official has triggered instant attacks and criticism among some Western media.

Nowadays, more and more nations in the world are adopting a multi-party system. But such a system has also brought tremendous chaos to many developing countries. China, which sticks to a unique mode of development, has had greater success than those developing countries that have adopted Western-style democracy in the past two or three decades.
