Chinese top canoeist Yang Wenjun said in Beijing Sunday that he wished to achieve better results in next year's Beijing Olympics after a series of winter training sessions.
He made the remarks after finishing third in the men's canoe single (C1) 500m of the "Good Luck Beijing" Canoe/Kayak Flatwater China Open being held in Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park.
"I am not in shape today and I am not satisfied with my performance in the last minutes of the race," said Yang, who won the gold medal in 2004 Athens Olympics.
"Athletes from Germany, Hungary and Russia are my main opponents. I want to make some adjustments after the race and hope to achieve a breakthrough in single racing," he said.
After the winter training camp, he hoped he would restore his shape and abilities for the Beijing Olympic Games, he added.
"I like water sports. I loved it since my childhood," he said.
When asked if he would form a pair with Meng Guanliang in next year's Olympics, he said that it would be the best choice if he is asked to compete in the canoe double event.
"We know each other better, and I don't have to get used to him in a long time," he said.
