As papa calls his son "cool" at winning and promised to buy him dinner, overjoyed mama is crying and only wanted to give him a big hug.
It was not long after their 22-year-old son, Chinese Olympic debutant Pang Wei, nailed down gold medal in men's 10-meter air pistol event with 688.2 points at the Beijing Shooting Range Hall on Saturday.
"Kid, you are so cool! I'll buy you dinner when you come back," said Pang Yanhong while receiving his son's call from Beijing.
Relatives, friends, reporters and even government officials all gathered around to witness the boy's performances. And the home party just started.
Pang said the whole family were so nervous and he hadn't eaten anything for a day. In order to keep the athlete free from worries, the news that his grandma fell ill was strictly closed off by family members.
"Today I'm very happy. The kid is still too young, and it's his first time to take part in the Olympics," said his mother. "We don't have wild wishes. I think it's just good enough for him to enter the top three...Now I only want to hug my champion son."
Baoding, located in north China's Hebei Province, is also the hometown of sixteen world champions, including Chinese diving diva Guo Jingjing and Qian Hong who claimed 100-meter butterfly gold at the Barcelona Olympics.
A total of seven Chinese athletes competing at the Beijing Olympic Games come from the city. Following Pang, Guo Jingjing is still charging toward glory as the diving competition of the Beijing Olympic Games kicks off Sunday.
