Malaysian badminton team keeps low profile before the Games
Adjust font size:

The Malaysian badminton team with the world's number two Lee Chongwei keeps a low profile before the Beijing Olympic Games start, saying their goal was two medals.

"We will fight for medals at first and then strive for golds," said team manager Lim Teong Hiat here on Tuesday, adding the Malaysian Olympic Committee set the target for one gold in badminton.

"There are no more easy games, despite Lee and our pairs in men's doubles have the chances to win golds," he said.

Malaysian shuttlers have never won golds since badminton became a competing sport at the Olympic Games in 1992, according to Lim. They garnered one silver and two bronze medals at the Games.

Lee Chong Wei, with a world ranking of second, was the team's biggest hope to win a gold. However, top seeded badminton players had never won titles at previous Games.
