Nepali guerrillas' leaders met with two foreign envoys on
Wednesday amied at persuading the international community to
recognize them as a legitimate political force, Katipur.com
reported on Thursday.
Baburam Bhattarai, second-in-command of the guerrilla and the
guerrillas' spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara met with Indian
ambassador Shiv Shankar Mukherjee in Kathmandu.
Later on Wednesday, they also met with the Swedish Foreign
Ministry's Ambassador for Conflict Management, Lena Sundh, who
arrived here on Monday for a six-day "assessment" visit.
"It was a courtesy call," Mahara told reporters after they met
with the Indian ambassador, adding "we talked about
institutionalizing democracy in the wake of the successful people's
movement."
Mahara said the Indian envoy was "positive" about their
proposal.
India officially treats the guerrillas a "terrorist outfit", but
has recently supported their move to return to mainstream
politics," he said.
During their meeting with Sundh, the guerrillas' leaders sought
the support of Sweden in taking Nepal's peace process onto
success.
"She has promised support (in this regard)," Mahara said, adding
that they exchanged experiences in conflict management.
