The death toll from double suicide truck bomb attacks on two police stations in the city of Fallujah on Thursday, rose to 15 people and 147 others wounded, police said.
"Our latest reports said that up to 15 were killed and some 147 others injured by the double suicide truck attacks in Fallujah," a local police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
In one of the attacks on the al-Hedheiri police station, in the Shurta neighborhood in central Fallujah, the attacker blew up his booby trapped truck outside the station after being hampered by concrete barricades at the entrance of the station, a local police source said.
The powerful blast destroyed several nearby houses and a school, the source said.
Almost simultaneously, another truck bomb targeted the al- Tawheed police station in the Jolan neighborhood in northern the city, he said.
"Some houses collapsed on the families, and people are trying to rescue dozens of women and children who believed to be buried alive," he said.
He added that local authorities imposed curfew on the neighborhoods and blocked all the entrances of the city.
Earlier, the source said that the attacks were caused by two suicide car bombings, and put the toll at nine killed and 15 injured according to initial reports.
Early in September, Iraq took over security control of the Anbar province from U.S. troops in a sign of security improvement in many of the war-torn country provinces.
Anbar, the country's largest province, has been relatively calm since more than a year and a half ago after Sunni tribes and anti- U.S. insurgent groups turn up against al-Qaida in Iraq network, cooperating with the U.S. troops and Iraqi security forces.
