German news magazine Stern made corrections to a problematic map of China on its Web site concerning Tibet and Taiwan, following strong protests by Chinese netizens.
The Chinese newspaper Global Times, whose online report first exposed the mistakes in the map, posted the before and after versions of the map on its Web site Tuesday.
On the first map, Tibet and Taiwan were marked in a color different from that of the rest of Chinese territory. In the second map, Tibet and Taiwan were marked white, the same as the rest of Chinese territory.
However, the map still outlines Tibet with a dotted line, in marked contrast to the boundaries of other Chinese provinces and regions.
A report by the Global Times on Monday said the Stern magazine's Web site (www.stern.de) has completely deleted the map from the site.
The Chinese newspaper reported that it first contacted Stern magazine by telephone on July 18 and received only a "no comment" response. Subsequent email inquiries by Global Times to Stern also came to no avail.
The Chinese newspaper said it still had not received an official response from Stern magazine as of press time.
