The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ( ZEC) was busy late Saturday night collating the results of Friday Presidential run-off with the outcome of the poll expected to be concluded anytime on Sunday, according to Sunday News.
Deputy Chief Elections Officer Utloile Silaigwana said he was satisfied with the electoral process and the results were being collated before announcement anytime."The verification process is complete and ballots have been counted," he said. "The results are now being collated at ward level before being forwarded to the constituency level."
From the constituency level, the results are then forwarded to the National Command Center, where there is further verification and collation. It is then that the results of the presidential run- off will be sent to Lovemore Sekeramai, the chief elections officer who will then announce it.
Silaigwana, who said he was generally comfortable with the way polls were conducted, said he was hopeful the process would be concluded on Sunday, but this was not definite.
"This was a very peaceful election throughout and so far we have not received any reports of violence," he said.
He pointed out that some wards had finished with the collation process, but others were yet to conclude the process.
In remote areas, Silaigwana said, the commission had since sent in helicopters provided by the Air Force of Zimbabwe so that results of the poll could be taken to the command center expeditiously.
"In all provinces, we had committees and these were working with the army and the air force and these will provide helicopters to get results from inaccessible areas and areas with poor communication facilities," he said.
