Iran's Revolutionary Guards condemn new US sanctions

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on Friday condemned the latest US sanctions against the Islamic Republic, local Fars news agency reported.

"The United States' warmongering ruling party is truly angry these days because...it has lost credit in the world due to the failure of all its criminal and devilish measures," the IRGC said in a statement.?

"(The United States) embarked on imposing unilateral sanctions on the IRGC and a number of Iranian banks and companies in a bid to soothe its pains and anger and heal its wounds," it said.

The IRGC also said that the United States was "in deep paralysis" as it realized that "all its plots to block the path of Iran's nuclear scientists and Iran's peaceful nuclear activities have failed."

"The IRGC will continue its duty, which is safeguarding the achievements of the Islamic Revolution and protecting its independence and freedom, and calls on the world of Islam to cement solidarity and unity to confront cruel and bullying attitudes and save the oppressed nations," it said.

Accusing Tehran of supporting terrorism in the Middle East, exporting missiles and engaging in a nuclear build-up, the United States announced in late October that it was imposing new sanctions against Iran.

The sanctions would be imposed against Iran's Defense Ministry, the IRGC and more than 20 Iranian companies, banks and individuals.

Under US laws, any assets found in the United States belonging to the designated groups must be frozen. Americans are also forbidden from doing business with them.

The sanctions are believed to be the toughest Washington has levied against Iran since the 1979 takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran.
