Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Wednesday received a new Egyptian plan for achieving reconciliation between his Fatah party and Islamic Hamas movement, his spokesman said.
Spokesman Nabil Abu Rdineh said Abbas will respond to the plan in two days, according to the official Palestinian WAFA news agency.
Abu Rdineh has not revealed the details of the plan. He said it aims at "maintaining the unity of the home, ending the split and achieving the national reconciliation.
Feud between Hamas and Fatah was widened in mid-2007 when Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and seized control of the Gaza Strip, driving out Fatah to the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
Since February 2009, Egypt has brokered six rounds of the reconciliation talks in Cairo between the two rivals to iron out their rifts, which have yielded little tangible results.
The new Egyptian offer came before the factions are scheduled to meet in Cairo late this month.
