The Iranian lawmaker Ali Banayi said Sunday that Iran's parliament intends to re-consider Iranian-Britain relations, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
Iran's parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission is due to review the relations between Iran and Britain and to present a set of relevant proposals to the country's Supreme National Security Council, Banayi was quoted as saying.
Referring to the British government's "plots against Iran", especially during the recent post-election unrest, Banayi said "their (Britain's) plots fell flat due to the vigilance of the Iranian officials."
"Western states, Britain in particular, played a key role in Iran's recent street riots aiming at 'soft overthrow' of the Islamic regime," said an indictment by Tehran's deputy prosecutor during the hearing session Saturday for the trial of the protestors and activists arrested after the disputed presidential election.
On the day, an Iranian employee of British embassy was put on trial on espionage charges. The local staff of British embassy participated in the country's post-election unrest, according to the official IRNA news agency.
The relations between Iran and Britain have suffered an unsteady motion after the Revolution of Iran in 1979. It was further put to test after the incidents of Iran's disputed July 12 presidential election.
