Afghan president Hamid Karzai in his biggest-ever election rally on Friday called on Afghans to support him in upcoming election to bring peace and stability for the country.
"In the polling day, I would committed to be with you and bringing you a peaceful environment all over the country," Karzai told a gathering of some 15,000 of his supporters in the only sport stadium in the capital city of Kabul.
He once again called on Taliban and other opposition to join the peace process and the elections by saying "you are voting for peace and prosperity of your country."
Afghanistan's second presidential and provincial election is set for Aug. 20 amid tight security while Taliban insurgents have called on Afghans to boycott it.
Juma Khan, 24, traveling from neighboring Wardak, told Xinhua. "I have not decided whom I should vote for yet."
However, he said "I would vote for a person who brings security for my homeland, and I do not fear from Taliban's threat even some parts of my province is under insurgents attack."
