China and Chile on Thursday pledged further exchanges on police forces of the two countries as Chilean police chief Eduardo Gordon makes his first visit to China.
"Chinese defense ministry is in support of deepening friendly exchanges between the Chinese armed police and Chilean police," said Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie while meeting with Gordon.
Gordon, accompanied by a Chilean police delegation, had held talks with high-ranking officers of the Chinese armed police, nailing down cooperative programs.
"The two countries have seen rapid development in terms of defense and military ties in recent years," said Liang.
Liang said that China and Chile are good friends and partners, the mutual-beneficially cooperation is in the interests of the two countries and peoples.
China and Chile established diplomatic ties in 1970. The two countries signed a free trade agreement in November 2005, with Chile being the first Latin American country to sign such a deal with China.
Gordon said he is expecting substantial exchanges between the police forces of the two countries.
Gordon also reiterated Chile's stance on one-China policy.
