Adjust font size:

Vietnam will start a two-month campaign next week to crack down on trafficking of women and children, Vietnam News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The General Department of Police asked the force nationwide to intensify fight against rings involved in trafficking in border regions, especially those adjoining China and Cambodia.

The department said it would work closely with border guards and other agencies to rescue victims.

So far this year, 191 trafficking cases have been detected with 417 women and children victims involved, official statistics showed.

Since 2005, there have been 1,600 cases of human trafficking with 4,300 victims.

"To prevent human trafficking, we need help from our neighbors. " said Nguyen Tri Phuong, the deputy director of the Social Order Crime Investigation Police Department.

Vietnam is working with provincial police and border guards in China, Cambodia and Laos to establish better ways to crack down on human trafficking.
