The NATO's civilian spokesman in Afghanistan John Coppard said Sunday the military organization is deeply committed to help Afghans hold free and fair election set for August this year.

"Our prime responsibly is to assist you Afghan people and your National Security Forces in providing security to the elections," he told a joint press conference with Afghan Defense Ministry's spokesman Zahir Azimi.

He made this comment while Taliban militants have vowed to disrupt the coming polls in Afghanistan.

"Our goal is to help Afghan institution deliver credible, free and inclusive elections to Afghan people," Coppard said,"Finally today I want to reiterate that NATO is committed to support credible, secure and free election here in Afghanistan."

Afghanistan's second Presidential and Provincial Councils election in the post -Taliban country was scheduled for August 20 this year, during which some 17 million eligible voters would use their franchise amid tight security to elect the country's president.

Over 80,000-strong NTAO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and the U.S.-led Coalition troops have been stationed in Afghanistan to ensure security in the post-Taliban central Asian state.
