Iran's police chief said Wednesday 100 of those detained during the post-election unrest in June will be released within the next two days, local Press TV reported.

"Two-thirds of the detainees have already been released and another 100 will be released in the next two days," Brigadier General Esmail Ahmadi-Moqaddam was quoted as saying.

"Some of the detainees will be prosecuted for destroying public property," he added.

According to Press TV, Iran's police have arrested 457 people in the post-election violence which has left at least 20 dead and hundreds of others injured.

On June 13, Iran's Interior Minister Sadeq Mahsouli said incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won the newly-concluded presidential election with 62.63 percent of the total ballots, while his main rival Mir-Hossein Mousavi got 33.75 percent.

After the official declaration, Mousavi protested "strongly" the "obvious" violations in the election and also appealed to the Guardian Council for the cancellation of the election result.

Mousavi's supporters staged massive rallies in Tehran and other cities in the country over the following days.

On June 29, the Guardian Council confirmed the vote result, announcing the election file was closed.
