Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse is to address the island's parliament on Tuesday announcing the conquer of Tamil Tiger rebels, government officials said Sunday.

Officials from the Department of Government Information said the president will ceremonially address parliament on Tuesday at 9: 30am (0400 GMT) which will be telecast and broadcast to the nation live on TV and Radio.

Defense officials said the government troops are poised to gain the balance area of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) presence by Monday.

Military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said Sunday that the troops have boxed the remaining LTTE cadres into a 400m x 600m land stretch in the Vellaimullaivaikkal area of the no fire zone ( NFZ) in the Mullaittivu district.

The NFZ was created by the government in January to shelter civilians caught in the fighting between the troops and the LTTE. The government later accused the LTTE of holding civilians hostage in the NFZ and began to attack the NFZ in April 20, causing more than 100,000 civilians flee the area. the LTTE has been limited to an area of 600.

Nanayakkara said the troops would continue to hunt the remaining rebels after the troops were successful in freeing the civilian population kept as human shields by the rebels.

Meanwhile, the military said they were able to free on Sunday seven security forces personnel held captive by the LTTE. They were freed by the troops at Karaimullavaikkal area in the Mullaittivu district.

The four sailors and three Army soldiers fell into rebel hands in December 2006.

They told the troops that they had been ill treated by the rebels under their captivity.

Analysts said Sri Lanka's bitter three-decade-old war has seen its end with more than 70,000 people have been killed since the mid-1980s.

The LTTE rebels lost most of its 15,000 sq-km territories to the advancing troops in a military offensive started in 2006.
