Chinese top legislator's Africa tour enhances mutual trust
Adjust font size:

The five-nation Africa tour of Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo has yielded "significant and fruitful" results by enhancing mutual trust and promoting pragmatic cooperation, vice secretary-general of China's top legislature Cao Weizhou said Saturday.

The two-week visit took Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, to five African nations of Algeria, Gabon, Ethiopia, Madagascar and Seychelles.

Wu also visited the African Union (AU) headquarters in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa during his visit to the country.

During his visits, Wu exchanged views and reached extensive consensus with the African leaders on the issues of deepening mutual trust, enhancing cooperation, aid and parliamentary contacts between China and the five nations, with a view to promoting the full development of Sino-Africa relations, Cao said.

Wu's visit, which, according to Cao, is another important diplomatic action of Chinese leaders following Chinese President Hu Jintao's successful visit to Africa in 2007, maintained the momentum of high-level visits between China and African countries.

The visit, which came at the two-year anniversary of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, is also of special significance by promoting the implementations of the Beijing summit results and the follow-ups, Cao said.

He added that Wu's visit also enhanced the bilateral ties between China and the five African countries, deepened the political mutual trust and enriched the connotation of the new type of strategic partnership between China and Africa.

The Chinese top legislator returned to Beijing on Saturday after concluding his official visit to Seychelles.
