The foreign minister of North Korea said on Tuesday his country supported the measures China had taken in Tibet to safeguard social stability there. The visiting North Korean Foreign Minister, Pak Ui-chun, made the remarks when meeting with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping.
Pak said North Korea valued its friendship with China and would "push forward the traditional and cooperative relations according to the demands of the situation".
He pledged North Korea would adhere to one-China principle, and wished the Beijing Olympic Games success.
Xi said the Sino-North Korean friendship, fostered by the leaders of the two countries, was a treasure of the two peoples, and that cementing relations with North Korea had long been China's consistent guideline.
Under the new circumstance, he said, China would further cooperate with North Korea under the guideline of inheriting the tradition, facing the future, promoting a good neighbor strategy and strengthening the cooperation.
Pak arrived in Beijing on Saturday for a four-day visit. Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with him, respectively, on Monday.
Pak will also visit China's financial hub Shanghai.
