China Supports Rwanda to Strive for Reconciliation
Adjust font size:

China supports the Rwandan government to maintain stability, promote national reconciliation and relieve poverty, said Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo in Beijing on Monday.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), made the remarks when meeting with a delegation of the Rwandan parliament led by Speaker of Senate Vincent Biruta.

Wu said China-Rwanda relations have witnessed sound and stable development in recent years since the establishment of diplomatic ties 35 years ago. The two sides share deepening political mutual trust and maintain smooth cooperation in such fields as trade, agriculture and infrastructure construction.

China appreciates Rwanda's firm adherence to the one-China policy and values their traditional friendship, he said, adding he hopes the two sides can work jointly to promote bilateral relations.

Wu also called for more parliamentary cooperation between the NPC and the Rwandan parliament, urging the two sides to strengthen legislative supervision, carry out close cooperation in international parliamentary organizations and promote mutual understanding and trust.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between New China and African countries.

Wu said to consolidate and develop the friendly cooperation with African countries is always an important component of China’s independent foreign policy of peace.

China, taking the fundamental interest of the Chinese and African people in consideration, will continuously push forward the China-Africa new strategic partnership featuring political equality, reciprocity and mutual learning in culture, he noted.

Biruta echoed Wu saying the Rwandan parliament is willing to strengthen relations with the NPC and to promote the China-Rwanda friendly relationship of cooperation. He also reiterated Rwanda's adherence to the one-China policy.
