Indonesia on Monday confirmed 38 people newly infected by H1N1 virus, putting the total cases to 400 in the country, a director at the Health Ministry said in a statement.
Director General of Disease Control and Environmental Health of the ministry Tjandra Yoga Aditama said that four of the newly infected persons were foreigners and the rest were Indonesian citizens.
Six of them had journeys to Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and China, he said. They were being treated at 19 hospitals in the country, said Yoga.
"Until now, the total number of people infected by H1N1 reaches 400, comprising 229 males and 171 females," he said.
The H1N1 virus has spread to nearly a half of total 33 provinces in the archipelago country, the ministry said.
A six year-old Indonesian girl has died from the disease, marking the first human death in the country.
Indonesia with over 17,500 islands has been on alert on the dangers of H1N1 virus since the severity of the threat from the virus been raised to the third level. The World Health Organization has recently raised the alert level from five to six, which means the pandemic has occurred.
