Latin America reports 5 more deaths, 91 new cases of A/H1N1 flu

Five more deaths and 91 new cases of the A/H1N1 influenza were confirmed in Latin America on Wednesday.

The Argentine authorities confirmed four new deaths, raising the death toll to 21 in the country. On Tuesday night, the authorities reported a total of 17 deaths.

The Chilean health authorities reported the death of a male patient due to the A/H1N1 virus, raising the death toll in the country to eight. There were no reports on new infections, leaving the total cases at 5,186.

The Colombian Social Protection Ministry reported one new case in Bogota, the country's capital, raising the total cases to 72.

The Ecuadorian Public Health Ministry said the confirmed cases in the country rose from 115 on Monday to 125.

The Guatemalan Health Ministry said in a statement that in the last 24 hours they had confirmed 11 new cases, raising the total cases in the country to 246.

The Salvadorian Public Health and Social Aid Ministry published at its website that the confirmed cases in the country rose from 191 to 195, namely four new cases since Tuesday.

Brazil's Health Ministry confirmed 65 new cases of A/H1N1 flu in the country, raising the total number of cases to 399.

The World Health Organization on Wednesday reported a total of 55,867 cases, including 238 deaths in 108 countries or regions.

The United States remained the country with the largest number of confirmed cases, or a total of 21,449.
