Two people were tested positive for A/H1N1 flu virus in Hong Kong on Wednesday, one of which did not involve travel history and was regarded as a second-generation case, local health authority announced.
Controller of the Center for Health Protection of Hong Kong Thomas Tsang said at a press briefing Wednesday that a 55-year-old man who did not have overseas travel record recently was confirmed to have contracted A/H1N1 flu.
The man went to a cocktail party in Hong Kong on June 5, which was also attended by a patient who was confirmed earlier to have infected with the flu. He developed flu symptoms on June 8 and then was rushed to the hospital on June 9 for quarantine.
Another case involved a 16-year-old local female middle school student. The sample of the student went through the first laboratory test and the result showed positive, while the result for the confirmatory test is pending, said Tsang.
About seven other students from the girl's class have also developed flu symptoms and will be arranged to receive treatment in the hospital.
There will be a suspension of classes at the girl's school, St. Paul's Convent School, which is located in Causeway Bay.
The center is still tracking the girl's recent travel history.
