Adjust font size:

Thailand's weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday resolved to set up a national-level committee to prevent the swine flu outbreak in the country and to cooperate with international health organizations to tackle the outbreak.

The cabinet agreed that under the new committee's operation the country's surveillance system should be comprehensively operated and coordinated with all of involved units, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said after the cabinet meeting.

The newly-set-up committee, which will deal with international organizations including the World Health Organization (WTO), is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kajornprasart.

In a related development, the Public Health Ministry has prepared some mobile labs for testing suspected swine flu cases, said Doctor Suwanchai Watanayingcharoenchai, the Medical Services Department's deputy director-general.

Doctor Suwanchai said the mobile labs could be deployed to test the swine flu in remote areas across the country anytime, the website by The Nation newspaper reported.

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old Thai woman returning from Mexico is suspected to have infected with swine influenza and being quarantined at the Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok as the first suspected swine flu case in Thailand.
