Shenzhen's exit-entry inspection and quarantine bureau issued a
dengue fever warning to outbound travelers who are planning to
visit Southeast Asian countries during the upcoming "Golden Week"
holiday.

The bureau warned that high-risk areas include Jakarta in Indonesia
and Malaysia.

"Jakarta has seen an outbreak in dengue fever recently, and at
least 135 communities have been included in dengue fever prevention
plan," said Liu Weihe, a spokesman for the bureau.

He said more than 10,942 dengue cases were reported in the
Indonesian capital during the past four months, and 41 died of the
disease.

"The epidemic is also reported in Malaysia, a popular travel
destination for Shenzhen residents," he said, adding that 13
Malaysians were killed by the disease.

The bureau warned that the seven-day May Day holiday was a
high-risk period when mosquito breeding, a pathogenic source of
dengue, reaches a peak in Southeast Asian countries.
